Join Kimberly Goff-Crews, Secretary and Vice President for Student Life, as she hosts Professors Laurie Santos (Psychology), Jennifer Herdt (Religious Studies), and Shelly Kagan (Philosophy) to discuss “Happiness And/Or the Good Life.”

KGC will join Janice Abraham, President and CEO, United Educators and Paul Walker, Ph.D., CPA, Executive Director, Center for Excellence in ERM, St. John’s University for a discussion about how higher ed institutions can identify and manage threats to their reputation. Topics will include the state of reputational risk at colleges and universities, how institutions manage reputational risk, types of incidents that threaten reputations, and best practices to effectively identify and mitigate risks.

Students will be taking a course that centers around cultural, religious, and philosophic visions of the “good life.” Specifically, students will be exploring how institutions can have explicit and implicit visions of the good life. Secretary Goff-Crews’ session will build upon a week where students will have written papers about visions of the good life that Yale promotes for its students both implicitly and explicitly.

This plenary examine the ways in which communities are created and maintained at Yale, and the importance of the many communities here to the One Yale. KGC will join Robert Blocker, Dean, Yale School of Music; Marvin Chun, Dean, Yale College; Lynn Cooley, Dean, Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and Sten Vermund, Dean, Yale School of Public Health on the panel.

KGC will introduce Dr. Mark Nemecas at his inauguration as Fairfield University's 9th president. 

FLY’s Lean In for Young Professionals group mentorship program will delve into career trajectory. Topics will focus on what to consider when crafting your career, your ideal workplace, and job responsibilities. KGC will be joined by other panelists Eileen O’Connor, Vice President for Communications; Lucas Swineford, Executive Director of Digital Education, Yale Center for Teaching and Learning; and Steve Varley, Associate Dean of Advancement, Yale School of Nursing.

KGC will join the Asian Network at Yale (ANY) and Yale’s Working Women’s Network (WWN) jointly sponsor 2017 Women’s Leadership Series. The focus of the Women’s Leadership Series is to bring together a diverse mix of Yale own successful women leaders who, through the discussion of topics relevant to today’s issues will inspire and encourage women to reflect on their own goals and status as they strive to advance in their careers and lives.

Kim hosts Timothy Snyder, one of the leading American historians and public intellectuals. He is the Housum Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.

His latest book, On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century is currently number one on the New York Times Best Seller list. Snyder first introduced these lessons in a Facebook post in November 2016, just days after the presidential election. The post has since received more than one million views, having been reposted, republished, and retweeted countless times. Snyder’s lessons have resonated with a world-wide audience.

KGC will provide welcoming remarks at the third annual Leadership Forum for Strategic Impact – a convening at Yale of 10-12 African women government leaders from around the continent. Yale OIA partners with the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute, the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy, and the Women for Africa Foundation (Spain).

At the annual M.A. Privatim ceremony, the President presents honorary masters degrees to all university professors who do not already have a Yale degree to their name.

Kim will co-host the event.
